The “Hello Game” is a great way to encourage the use of names and help build a sense of belonging within the group. It can be played in two different ways:
Two ways to play
- The leader throws a football to a child or leader while saying, “Good morning, (name).” That person then throws the ball to someone else in the group, saying their name as they throw. The game continues until everyone has had at least one turn.
- The leader throws a football to one person in the group, saying, “Good morning, (name),” as the ball is thrown. The person then throws it back to the leader, also saying, “Good morning, (name).” The leader continues this back-and-forth pattern with each person in turn.
Any football will work, but I now use a soft football from IKEA because it is lightweight and safe to use indoors — no one is going to get hurt by it!
